Arthur Carries The Flag East Anglia At The Farm Shop And Deli Awards 2015
I travelled up to Birmingham’s NEC on April 20 to take part in the finals of the Farm Shop & Deli Awards 2015 for the second year running.
The show’s organisers invited me to attend after I was again chosen as East Anglian regional winner in the prestigious competition, as well as being highly commended in the Best Retail Group category.
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to bring the big national award back to Norfolk, but it was a great honour and privilege just to make it to the fiercely competitive finals two years in a row.
Nonetheless, journalist Nigel Barden, who presents a food slot on Simon Mayo’s Radio Two show and is on the judging panel for the awards, was most generous in his praise for my business.
He said that in adding a fishmonger’s, deli and bakery to my long-standing butcher’s business I’d helped transform Wells, where he has been a visitor on more than one occasion.
Nigel added that I had also helped ensure there was still a place for independent food retailers in the town. Praise indeed!
My wife Liz, daughter Alex and her partner, also Alex, and my deli manager Matt had a great day wandering around all the produce stalls which form the main part of the Farm Shop & Deli Show.
Keep your eyes open when you next visit my deli in Staithe Street, Wells, as you’re likely to see some of the new product ranges which tickled Matt’s highly discerning fancy.
Being named East Anglian regional winner is testimony to the hard work of all my staff, and the loyalty and appreciation of my much-valued customers, so thanks be to you all!
