Giving something back – Arthur hosts visiting students
As you are probably aware I like to do my bit for the local community and one of the ways I do this is by trying to help the next generation.
Towards the end of June myself and Chris Coubrough hosted a delegation of catering students from Norwich City College, with whom we have forged a close relationship over the last few years.
The students visited my butcher’s shop in Wells-next-the-Sea and had a tour round my abattoir before Chris and I talked to them about animal husbandry, local and sustainable supply lines, food preparation and hygiene, storage and the economics of catering.
The students were also given a tour of my wet fish shop and bakery in Staithe Street.
Chris and I like to pass on what we know to the next generation so the chefs, caterers and food producers of the future get a better idea of what is involved in the business.
In the past we’ve also helped catering students from the town’s Alderman Peel High School in the same way.
